Musical Rube Goldberg Gutter System
Hidden in Dresden-Germany is a remarkable feat of engineering and music. From the home country of such famous composers as Ludwig van Beethoven, Johann Sebastian Bach, and George Frideric Handel comes the musical Court of Water designed by Heike Bottcher in 1999. This clever bit of musical art is located on a wall in the Kunsthof-Passage farm collective, and plays music whenever it rains.
The Rube-Goldberg contraption includes gutters and downspouts shaped like trumpets, along with other surfaces that make unique sounds as water makes its way down. The abstract art piece is just one of the many incredible things this small city has produced. The beautiful architecture and the blue and green color of the building make the Court of Water both visually and audibly pleasing. The Court of Mythical Creatures and the Court of Metamorphosis are other similar installations that can be seen in this area.
